| Summary, etc. | Koskettavasti kerrottu tarina poikkeuksellisesta ihmisestä. Varsinais-Suomen Yläneellä syntynyt Frans Leijon (1878-1947) menetti jo pienenä sairauden vuoksi näkönsä ja kuulonsa. Poika unohti oppimansa sanat ja juoksi nelinkontin villilapsena, johon kukaan ei saanut yhteyttä. Kuin ihmeen kaupalla Frans pääsi kymmenvuotiaana Pietarsaaren kuurojenkouluun, jossa hän oppi viittomakieltä ja pistekirjoitusta. Hänestä kehittyi taitava käsityöläinen ja puutahaviljelijä. Frns Leijon oli tunnettu hahmo jo elinaikanaan, ja hänestä tuli kuurojen kulttuurin avainhenkilöitä Suomessa. Hänen tapaustaan pidettiin ihmeenä ja samalla myös osoituksena sivistyksen voimasta. Kulttuurihistorioitsija ja palkittu tietokirjailija Hannu Salmi löysi Fransin, isoisoäitinsä aviottoman lapsen, tutkiessaan sukunsa historiaa. Rippikirjassa luki: "Kuuromykkä ja sokea. Hyljätty." |
